Lindsay Lohan: estrangement from dad partially to blame for problems
Lindsay Lohan has said she thinks her fraught family life over the last few years played a role in her excessive behaviour last year.
Lindsay had three separate stays in rehab, was arrested twice for DUIs and was sentenced to a day in jail (although she only served 84 minutes in the end) in 2007 but she hopes 2008 will be a lot calmer now that her family life has settled down and she has reconciled with her formerly jailed father.
She told Harper’s Bazaar recently that not seeing Michael Lohan during his two years of jail time was difficult: “Not seeing my father was really hard for me, [as was] not being with my family enough.”
“I wasn’t taking any time to just sit and live and breathe. I was going, going, going, and that ran me down. It was a stressor. It upset me. I didn’t have a father to call, and that was a lot of the pain.”
Lindsay and Michael finally reconciled in September while she was receiving treatment at the Cirque Lodge facility in Utah, and as a recovering drug user and alcoholic, Michael has helped Lindsay on her own path to sobriety. She explained: “I’ve learned so much, though, like learning to love my life a different way.”
“And I wasn’t taking the time to feel my feelings. Being away and going to a place where I could learn about that and take the time with a clear mind to get back on the right track was nice.”
“I have it in me to go, go, go. I’m still young. I love life. I love music and being around that. I love people, and I’m a very social person. But I also love being home, quiet and normal… I’ve always been a homebody… Seriously, I was just running away from what my home had become.”
