Brit Awards 2008: Kaiser Chiefs Ricky Wilson can’t believe band’s success
Kaiser Chiefs star Ricky Wilson can’t believe the band are up for another two Brit Awards this year.
The group are nominated for Best British Group and Best British Live Act - and were in the Best Single category for their hit ‘Ruby’ until the final round of eliminations on Monday.
He told the Sun recently that after eight years of plugging away without success before the realise of their album ‘Employment’ in 2004: “You feel Kaiser Chiefs would never be ranked as one of the country’s biggest bands. I like the fact we still feel like underdogs.”
“The fact that ‘Ruby’ was the biggest song on the radio last year really freaks me out.”
But despite his modesty, after picking up three Brits in 2005 for Best Group, Best Rock Act and Best Live Act, he has high hopes for this year’s ceremony: “I definitely think we should get one at least. To get three nominations on your second album is impressive.”
“We were nominated for five in 2006. It’s fewer nominations this year but more of an achievement.”
