Amy Winehouse (with Mark Ronson) at last night’s Brit Awards
Last night’s Brit Awards are the talk of the web’s video community so here is a clip of Amy Winehouse’s solo performance, singing her hit ‘Love is a Losing Game’ and her rendition of ‘Valerie’ as part of the Mark Ronson melody.
Compared to her Grammy performance the other week and the other great acts from last night, her solo effort is a bit lacklustre. Her voice is frequently a bit wobbly and out of key, and she seems to be really quite uncomfortable behind the mic - is she trying to show us her knickers like a three year old with a bladder infection would?
But at other passing moments, she plays the camera like the pro she is and her voice chews up the lyrics in a fantastic way. Just a shame she wasn’t on top of her game for the whole thing.
‘Valerie’, though, is a lot better. With the horns and everything, there is a lot less focus on her voice so slip-ups aren’t so noticeable, and it’s obviously a lot easier to dance to the poppy beat. But why is Mark pretending to play a guitar?

She’s just lacking “match fitness”. I adore this woman. She’s a bloody national treasure.

Lucy, you clearly don’t understand jazz/blues if you thought Amy Winehouse was wobbly, uncomfortable or any of the other dissing comments. What do you expect with a song called ‘Love is a Losing Game’? Boy band boppiness?
That was an outstanding performance, especially given her trials and tribulations.
If you thought it was poor, check out movies of Billie Holliday and Edith Piaf, and begin to understand the portrayal of emotion when you see it.
