Britney SpearsBritney Spears‘ estranged friend/advisor/manager Sam Lufti is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department over claims that he drugged the star without her knowledge.

Sam is said to have admitted to drugging Britney in order to “calm her down” and Britney’s mum Lynne Spears claims he also gave her more drugs to make her “fun” before her hospitalisation at the end of last month.

The police investigation into the claims was started earlier this month but its status has now been increased and the case has been moved to Robbery Homicide because of the sensitive nature of the allegations given Britney’s celebrity.

According to police sources, interviews with several key witnesses have already been conducted and the investigation will be concluded next month.

In related legal news, Britney’s ongoing court case regarding last year’s hit and run incident has been postponed.

The actual hit-and-run charges were dropped after Britney settled with the other vehicle’s owner but the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office is still pursuing the star as she did not have a valid driving license at the time of the crash last August.

However, her lawyer Michael Flanagan has argued that she is currently not “qualified or capable” of giving a deposition or signed declaration at this time, or entering any binding agreements (such as probation or a court-ordered driver’s education course) that would constitute her punishment for the offence.

Britney has previously refused a plea deal over the charge. The case will be reviewed again in a month’s time.
