We don’t normally feature many men in the Red Carpet Commentary because, well, mostly their outfits aren’t worth commenting on. For the really big events, they’re all in pretty much bog standard tuxedos or at the other end of the scale for less prestigious ones, they look like they’ve just stumbled up the red carpet in their standard everyday street wear. But some of this year’s Brit Awards attendees actually got suited and booted (literally in most cases) so we thought we should give them some attention too.

Arctic Monkeys

The Arctic Monkeys are an obviously place to start because they all coordinated their game plan and came in costume as country gents - complete with shooting sticks and fake ducks. Quack quack.

Take That at the Brits Award

In comparison to them, Take That looked a bit of a mish-mash. Gary Barlow looked like he’d come straight from work at an upmarket accountants and Jason Orange’s pale grey suit looked a bit odd with a dark grey waistcoat and fawn coloured boots. Little Mark Owen must have been shopping in the children’s section for his outfit because it all looks a tad too small, even for him and prevents him from pulling off the casual cool look he was going for. Only Howard Donald really looks like he’s at a music awards show - he might look a bit scruffy but it’s a look that works for me.

The Hoosiers

The Hoosiers were similarly mish-mashed but by the looks of it within a theme - that of “dressing up in dad and granddad’s old clothes”. While they’re allowed a certain level of kook for being a rock band, this comes across as a bit affected - trying a bit too hard to be different. At least the blue beanie is practical in this weather though.

The Klaxons at the Brits

The rather drunken Klaxons managed the quirky look better - really hideous jumpers all around but I suspect that’s the point.

Mark Ronson and Shayne Ward

Finally, the sole men seemed to all go for shiny. Mark Ronson wore a shiny black two piece for the red carpet then swapped for shiny blue for his performance with Amy Winehouse, Adele and Daniel Merriweather - while Shayne Ward stayed in shiny black all night. I love his thin lapels and tie but it’s really just a bit too glossy for my liking.

Mika

And last but not least, Mika went for a pearlised shiny white for his jacket, teamed with a colourful skinny scarf and black trousers. I would have really liked the look if it hadn’t seemed a size too small for him. I first noticed the problem in the sleeves but once you start to look at it more closely, it looks too small lengthwise in general and the shoulders look out of place. Shame because it ruins a fun look.
