Drew BarrymoreDrew Barrymore has said rehabbing celebrities need to know they have to work hard at beating their addictions themselves, not just going through the motions in treatment programmes.

After shooting to fame at the age of six in E.T, Drew started smoking at drinking at the age of 9, smoking marijuana at 10 and taking cocaine at 12 - and had been through two rehab programmes by the time she was 14.

The now sober Drew told Vogue recently that if she had one piece of advice to give the current party girls, she’d say: “If you don’t pull it together for yourself, no one else will.”

“That’s coming from a person who had to try it all … and who still loves to have a good time.”

She added that they should lose sight of their professional goals either: “I do believe in ‘Work hard, play hard,’ but ‘Work hard’ always comes first, and it did even when I was wild and young.”
