MadonnaWhile most top celebrities will have spent yesterday in bed sleeping off their Oscar night excesses, Madonna had to haul herself over to the Beverly Hills Courthouse for jury duty first thing yesterday morning.

The singer hosted an exclusive after-party at her manager Guy Oseary’s Los Angeles home which, with the usual Vanity Fair event cancelled, became the most star-studded event of the night.

Onlookers report that “every single Oscar winner except for Daniel Day-Lewis was there” as well as a host of other celebrities including Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Demi Moore & Ashton Kutcher, Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi, Cameron Diaz, Owen Wilson and recently out of rehab Eva Mendes.

But Madonna had to leave the festivities at just after 4am in order to get a few hours sleep before she was required at the courthouse.

According to inside sources, she arrived just after 8am in a brown velour Juicy Couture sweatsuit and sunglasses and had to lay down while waiting to be called during the morning because, she told her fellow potential jurors, she was “so exhausted”.

After lunch, she returned to the courthouse looking slightly more alive and had changed into black capri pants and a black jacket - only to be dismissed a few hours later as she wasn’t needed on the single jury that was picked that day.

A source close to the star explained: “She was prepared to do her duty as required but she was glad she didn’t have to do any more than show up after such a late night.”

Jennifer Lopez and Brad Pitt have also both partaken in jury duty over the past few years.
