Britney Spears has been awarded a spending allowance of $1500 a week after a court hearing regarding her ongoing conservatorship yesterday.

Britney’s spending and social life has been strictly controlled since the conservatorship was put in place over a month ago but at a hearing yesterday, Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled that Britney, who has an estimated $60million fortune, should be given a limited debit card so she “can have spending money or freedom of choice of how she wants to enjoy herself.”

The hearing also saw the appointment of two specialist lawyers - at the cost of $40,000 a month in retainers - to look after Britney’s ongoing business affairs but in a second court session yesterday, Britney’s custody lawyer Stacy Phillips argued that the star should no longer be responsible for the legal bills of her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Britney has thus far being paying Kevin’s legal costs in the battle over their two sons to allow him to appoint a lawyer of equal calibre but Phillips claims the agreement is being abused. His lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan recently increased his hourly rate to $600 a hour and has already billed for $405,000 worth of work.

Phillips also argued that Kevin can afford to “take responsibility” for at least some of the fees, citing his recent decision to leave a $2000 tip on a $365 dining tab: “He needs to take responsibility for the diligent work being done on his behalf.”

According to the court spokesperson Allan Parachini, the issue is still “under submission”: “When the judge will rule, I don’t know.”
