Steve-OJackass star Steve-O is currently being held on a suicide watch in a hospital in Los Angeles after threatening to take his own life.

An inside source told Star magazine he was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday afternoon after he emailed suicide notes to 33 friends. After an initial evaluation, he was transferred to the Thalians Mental Health Center and put on a 72 hour hold, which was then extended to a 14 day stay.

The source told the magazine: “Steve started flipping out. He told doctors he wanted to hurt himself badly. He wanted to break every bone in his body one by one.”

“He was also treated for burns on his skin as if he had been putting cigarettes out on his own body.”

“[He] is stabilized on meds [now].”

The performer was arrested earlier in the month for vandalising a neighbour’s property and possession of illegal drugs, and yesterday he was formally charged with felony-level possession of cocaine.

A second source added that Steve’s problems - and indeed his entire professional career - have been fuelled by untreated bipolar disorder: “Right now he’s in his extreme mania.”

“His concerned friends and family are hoping he’ll seek treatment. He doesn’t need jail, he needs therapy. We’re just really hoping that this will be the wake-up call that gets him back to himself.”
