Corinne Bailey Rae’s husband found dead
Corinne Bailey Rae’s husband Jason Rae has been found dead at the couple’s Leeds home.
Jason’s body was found at the property in Hyde Park yesterday afternoon and it is believed he died as the result of an accidental drug overdose. Police arrested a 32 year old man at the scene on suspicion of “supplying controlled substances” and are awaiting toxicology results to confirm the cause of death.
Corinne married Jason in 2001 after meeting at a local jazz club. Jason, a saxophonist with the Haggis Horns, has previously played with Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson. The band were due to play a gig at the city’s Hifi Club last night but it was cancelled in light of yesterday’s events.
Mark Ronson has previously described the band as having “the best horn section in the world”.
A source close to the group added: “They liked to work hard and play hard. Jason partied a lot and was a really colourful character, always fun and joking.”
“He was an amazing sax player, a complete legend. He contributed enormously to a really good band.”
Earlier this year, Corinne said it was difficult being away from her husband while working: “It really helps having Jason around. It’s hard being away from him when I’m doing promotional tours, but that’s only for a while. I’ve also sat at home watching TV while he’s been out gigging, so one of us has always been busy.”
“When I’m away, I realise how rare what we have is and can’t wait to get back to it. You appreciate the time you have together and if you only get three days at home, you make it a really good three days.”
