Tamzin OuthwaiteTamzin Outhwaite has said she’s glad she waited until her late 30s to become a mum.

The former Eastenders star is currently six months pregnant with her first child with husband Tom Ellis and she told the Sunday Mirror recently: “Not meeting my husband Tom until later on in life was a blessing in disguise.”

“I really don’t think if I’d met him earlier I’d have been quite as ready. Your 20s are a time for being selfish. I feel if I had got pregnant any time before now, it wouldn’t have been right. I would have made the best of things, of course, but it just feels ideal now.”

“If I was still 20-something, I might feel like being pregnant was intruding on my lifestyle. But at this age I don’t. In fact, I was partied out well before that. I’ve been quite a homely kind of person for a while now. I think it’s a natural progression.”

She added she would love a “healthy brood” of children but isn’t ready to move to the suburbs and be a soccer mum just yet: “I’m a real city girl. I love London. The time is not quite right for me to up-sticks yet.”

She’s also not planning to give up on her career for motherhood either: “I couldn’t choose one over the other, I think you just need to have a balance.”

“I don’t know how soon I’ll go back to work post-baby. But at the moment I’m enjoying my nesting time. I don’t know what the future holds, but as long as I’m as happy in 10 years’ time as I am now, I’ll be over the moon.
