Heather Mills did better than she thought she would in court, says lawyer
Heather Mills‘ lawyer has said she would have settled for £5million less than she was finally awarded in her divorce from Paul McCartney.
Last month, Heather was awarded a package worth £24.3million by Mr Justice Bennett after the parties failed to reach an agreement during their five days at the High Court in February.
But this week David Rosen told the Daily Mail: “Heather certainly did slightly better than she believed she was going to. She believed it would be in the ball-park of £20m to £30m because that is what everyone was saying. But I don’t think she was in it for the money.”
“They tried to deal with it amicably and sensibly but it didn’t happen. As I understand it, Paul has always been relatively frugal with his money and he was never going to make any payment unless it was by order of the court.”
“I think she suggested a prenuptial agreement and was happy to do it but he wasn’t interested,” said Mr Rosen. “He thought they would live happily ever after. That also indicates she is no gold-digger.”
He added that Heather’s new legal quest - fighting the court’s gagging order - isn’t about more money: “She just wants the public to have the full facts of the case. She wants people to know that she was a good mother and a good wife.”
“There is no criticism of the judge and nor can there be of his ruling. Heather’s objection was to specific details of security and living arrangements being made public. She [feels] she has been vilified by the press.”
“I think now is the time for reflection as to who she is and what she constructively wants to do in the future. She feels robbed of precious time in the formative years of her daughter’s development, having to focus on a court battle when all she really wanted to do was bring up her daughter.”
Do you think Katie Price's marriage to Alex Reid will last?
