Pete Doherty jailed for 14 weeks over probation violation
Pete Doherty has been sent to jail for a total of 14 weeks after violating his court order.
Pete was originally given a suspended sentence and supervision order over the driving and drug possession charges dating from May last year. The conditions of the sentence stipulated that he had to make regular court visits for drug tests and progress reports, and also that he take part in a drug rehabilitation programme.
During a hearing at West London Magistrates Court today, Judge Davinder Lachar confirmed that the Babyshambles frontman had violated the agreement after failing to attend a meeting with his probation team and arriving late for another session.
Under current conditions, Pete is expected to serve around a month of his sentence but has had to postpone a gig at the Royal Albert Hall later this month. If he serves the full 14 week sentence, he’ll also miss his headlining slot at Glastonbury.
A spokesperson from his record label confirmed the sentencing and the gig postponement but added that the “show is due to be rescheduled and all tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced.”
“Pete was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and to all those concerned.”
Babyshambles drummer Adam Ficek added: “I feel gutted for him. Obviously he’s going to find it really difficult in there but all I can say is that the band is going to stick with him as always.”
