Ashlee Simpson and Pete WentzAshlee Simpson’s family have said they’re delighted about the singer’s engagement to boyfriend Pete Wentz - and her ex-boyfriend is happy about it too.

Ashlee confirmed her engagement to the Fall Out Boy star earlier this week and her big Jessica Simpson said on Thursday that Ashlee is currently “overflowing with joy”: “Pete is an incredible soul. They naturally bring out the best in each other. I couldn’t be happier.”

The women’s dad Joe Simpson added that Pete asked for his permission before popping the question: “[Pete] did ask me. I told him that I would be honored to have him as part of my family.”

And Ashlee’s ex-boyfriend Ryan Cabrera told Us Weekly magazine: “I think they’re really good together.”

“I met [Pete] a couple times, and he was really nice and intelligent, so I was like, ‘Very cool, go for it!’”
