Cate BlanchettCate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton welcomed their third son into the world yesterday in Sydney.

Earlier today, a spokesperson for the Sydney Theatre Company confirmed the birth, saying: “The baby was born yesterday. Both are doing well.”

Ignatius Martin Upton weighed in at 3.6kg (just under 8lbs) and is the younger brother for six year old Dashiell and three year old Roman.

Cate and Andrew are currently co-directors of the theatre company: on accepting the position last year, Cate said taking a break from Hollywood for the theatre would make it easier for them to extend their family and to make life easier for their existing children. Speaking of eldest son Dash, she said: “[he] needs to be settled, and I respect that.”
