Pete Doherty has reportedly been using heroin during his first week in prison.

Last week, the Babyshambles frontman was sentenced to a 14 week stay at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in London after violating the conditions of his previously suspended sentence and court supervision order.

Earlier this week, inside sources claim the singer has been put in a segragation unit for his own safety and is being given special treatment - but now another source has claimed he’s mingling with other inmates to procure drugs.

Photos leaked to the Sun show the musician in his cell and a source told the newspaper that even though he’s been prescribed methadone by doctors in an attempt to wean him off the drug, he’s been topping up his dose: “We can’t believe how much he’s still clucking for it. They put him inside to force him to give up but Pete always has a need to feed his habit.”

“He hasn’t received his prison wage yet so he’s getting the drugs on credit and writing IOUs.”

The singer is also said to have won favour with prison officers by providing autographs and staff from all wings of the prison are visiting him to obtain his signature: “He usually signs his name next to a scribbled smiley face with a trilby.”

The source added that the gesture is already working and along with his special treatment, he’s been told he’ll be transferred to an open prison as soon as a place is available.

Regarding the drug claims, a prison service spokesperson said: “We will act on any intelligence which indicates drugs are being smuggled or abused.”
