Pete Wentz: Ashlee Simpson’s ring isn’t a conflict diamond
Pete Wentz has said he made a conscious effort to ensure that fiancee Ashlee Simpson’s engagement ring didn’t contain any conflict diamonds.
Conflict diamonds, also known as blood diamons, are those that are acquired in war zones and after usually being mined in unethical conditions, are sold to fund the continuing conflict.
Speaking at the NME Awards USA on Wednesday night, the Fall Out Boy star told People magazine: “It is not a conflict diamond. It’s something I care about.”
“I can’t actually go [to Africa to pick it out] myself, but I trust [the jeweller]. He’s a reputable person.”
The couple confirmed their engagement earlier this month but Pete denies that Ashlee is already expecting their first child.
