Britney SpearsIt’s looks like D-Day may be approaching for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s ongoing custody case: the couple’s Child Custody Evaluation report has been received by the court and it’s expected to provoke a long-lasting ruling about the case.

Britney lost physical custody of her sons Sean and Jayden last autumn and in January temporarily lost visitation rights as well after a stand-off at her Studio City home. After she was placed under a conservatorship order at the start of February, she has since had monitored visits restored but legal teams for both parties have been attending court hearings monthly to continually reassess the situation.

However, after 18 months of constant wrangling, all involved are said to want to settle the case to provide a more stable environment for the two boys - and for Mum and Dad - and sources close to the case believe that this new document may spark a decision.

The report, complied by Dr Jane Shatz and including feedback from court-appointed monitors and observers, is said to be incredibly detailed but a “mixed bag” for Britney.

A source explained: “The report notes that Britney clearly has a lot of love for the boys and they all enjoy the time they spend together but she’s just not capable of looking after herself at the moment, let alone two toddlers.”

The next court hearing has been scheduled for 6th May, after both legal teams have had a chance to disgest the document, and the source added that the report “makes it more likely that Britney will show for the hearing”.

In related news, the star has finalised her return to How I Met Your Mother.

The show’s executive producer and co-creator Craig Thomas has confirmed that the rumoured negotiations have been concluded and Britney’s character will appear in one more episode: “We’re all so thrilled to have Britney joining us once again.”

Britney’s appearance on the show in March bumped up the sitcom’s viewing figures by 2million, taking the total figure to over 10million - the highest audience ever recorded in the show’s run. The new episode will air on 12th May.
