Christina RicciUnlike the young actresses playing strippers on film, Christina Ricci believes her Speed Racer character is a positive role model for young girls.

Speaking at the film’s London premiere last night, she told reporters: “I think she’s a great role model because she’s allowed to be as girly as she wants to be and she’s very girly and loves clothes, and make-up and has lots of different outfits.

“But she also does every single thing the boys do and no-one ever comments on the fact that she’s a girl doing boy things.

“That’s very important for young girls, to have someone out there and think, ‘well nobody’s saying anything about her doing that so maybe no-one will judge me if I want to do that’.”
