Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon’s marriage: friends express happy surprise
Friends and family of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have expressed happy surprise that the couple eloped to the Bahamas this week, after just a month of dating.
Reports that the couple married at Mariah’s home on the island of Eleuthera have been fuelled by Bishop Clifford Petty of the National Church of God, who told People magazine that he conducted the ceremony, and government sources, who report that the couple applied for a marriage license after arriving in the Caribbean earlier this week.
A source close to Mariah told People magazine that Team Mariah is “shell shocked” at the speed of the whirlwind affair but “As far as I know, they are happy together.”
Nick’s brother Gabriel added: “It’s crazy right! We’re definitely happy. Well wishes!”
However a second source close to Nick added that this isn’t the first time the actor/comedian has rushed a romance: “This is what Nick does; Nick is such a sucker for love. He falls in love so quick.”
“We all thought it was a joke, but he’s been impulsive before. He’s a mini mogul but still young and maybe this was a crush that went too far.”
“Well see. He takes awhile to come down from the cloud.”
A further source told the New York Post: “There was no prenup - there wasn’t time.”
The couple are said to have met in March after Nick was cast as the lead opposite Mariah in the video for her song ‘Bye, Bye’.
Nick’s friend, jewellery designer Jacob Arabo claims he created an engagement ring for Mariah a fortnight ago - worth a cool $2.5million: “The way [Nick] came into the store, the mood he was in, I knew this was very serious. He said ‘Jacob, I’m in love. This is what I want to do.’”
“He said he wanted something in pink, so he picked something in a light purple-ish pink. He was very involved and he trusted me to design the ring.”
The finished ring is based around a light pink diamond at the center, surrounded by 58 deeper pink diamonds and two half-moon diamonds.
- Do you think Mariah and Nick have actually married? Do you think it’s a publicity stunt or the real thing for them? Would you marry someone after a month? Post your thoughts below.

They make a cute couple and YEs you can get married anytime after meeting someone, even if its one day. No one has the right to say how long after dating you should get married. Mariah is smart, Nick Cannon is HOT HOT HOT!
