Pete Doherty freed from jail after just 29 days
Pete Doherty was released from prison this morning after serving just 29 days of a 14 week sentence.
The Babyshambles frontman was released from HMP Wormwood Scrubs in west London around 7:10am this morning and after borrowing a phone from a waiting reporter to call a friend for a lift, he described his prison life as being a combination of “a lot of gangsters and Radio 4″.
“[And] thank you Mrs Thatcher for putting me in the company of the most dangerous criminals in the country.”
He also showed off a certificate proving he’d passed a drug test while inside but when asked if he’d taken drugs during his stay, he avoided the question, replying: “Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with, with the overcrowding and the medical facilities although they do their best - they are good, they can’t really cater for the average junkie…”
He added that despite a rumoured eviction, he was looking forward to returning to his rented home in Marlborough, Wiltshire to see his pet cats and to have “a rum and Coke”.
Pete was sentenced to the jail time after violating conditions of a suspended sentence and court supervision order following a drug possession arrest in London last May.
