Sex And The City: The Movie had its world premiere in London last night and, unsurprisingly, it was a fashionfest.

I LOVE Sarah Jessica Parker’s green chiffon Alexander McQueen dress - it’s fresh, it’s pretty and it’s general flattering (although it does seem to be sat a little too high, making her torso look a tad short) - but what on earth is going on with that thing on her head? I don’t mean the Philip Treacy hat - which is clearly wacky but fun and an wonder of engineering - but her scruffy hair. It looks uncombed and unstyled so jars with the rest of the precise look.

Cynthia Nixon’s hair, on the other hand, is just perfect, along with the barely there make-up and pretty drop earrings. Her dress though… I like the overall look - the fabric, the deep blue colour, the flowing skirt even the concept of the plunge front - but something about the execution of the top part seems to be a little severe.

Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall both decided to coordinate with the event’s red carpet - and I wonder if someone’s stylist is going to be fired because they went for the same general colour. Kristin’s vintage chiffon was a more muted and pinker than Kim’s letterbox-red structured Vivenne Westwood, and the colour, combined with the styles of the indiviual dresses - quite prim versus post-sex-session dropped shoulder - made me wonder if they’d come, at least in part, as their characters from the show.

While a lot of the attention for the evening was on the four stars of the show, they were also joined by a host of other UK celebrities who had leapt on the invitation’s request to dress “glamorously”.

Vivenne Westwood herself wore a dress that consequetively provided full coverage and none at all. The design of the fabric reminded me of the black mini-dress Gwyneth Paltrow wore to a recent Iron Man premiere - I think it works better in black for the contrast.

Davina McCall also went decked out in all white - brilliant, washing-powder commercial white - and seems a little uncomfortable with the outfit around her belly - the tell-tale strains in the crotch area also indicate she probably should have gone for the next size up. But I like the idea and she looks really happy & healthy — and while her tan might be a bit patchy on her arms, at least the white does’t make her look bright orange as it would on so many tantastic celebrities.

In the same way Davina’s outfit was a bit too white, Trinny Woodall’s dress was a little too pink. And a little too big for her. It seems to hang strangely too and makes her arms look weird - no wonder she went for the distracting whole-bracelet-collection wrist wear idea.

WAG Alex Curran also went for a very strong (and shiny) pink but broke it up with a little more flesh and hints of black. While it’s not a colour I’d go for and her legs don’t match the rest of her skin, I think she looks great here: the dress and shoes are cute, her face and hair very pretty and her somewhat discoloured legs in great shape.

Kimberley Stewart also showed up looking great in a little black dress. Sometimes I forget that she’s an actual model and not just a model in the way Peaches Geldof is a model (famous dad syndrome) - Kimberley’s got the stature, the poses and a really interesting look - like Pixie Geldof.

Louise Redknapp, who confirmed her second pregnancy last week, also looked fab in a LBD. Simple but pretty - and bump flattering.

Michelle Ryan’s skin tight purple Herve Leger dress showed off her Bionic Woman body to perfection and she really is becoming a beautiful woman - albeit one who should probably rethink that hairstyle.

Her fellow former Eastender Martine McCutcheon is also look great - super cute new haircut and a flattering gown that’s sexy without flashing flesh.

The Sugababes were more into the flesh - with all three going for mini-dresses. Amelle Berrabah looks very pretty and I love her ringlets (and not just a gesture of curly haired solidarity) - but like SJP, her gown seems to sit a bit high on her body so she got a shrunken torso thing going on. High-waist, schmigh-waist: it just looks like she’s been buying from the petite section instead of the tall range.

Heidi Range obviously heard the rule about only doing chest or legs, and not both unless you want to look cheap, so covered up her pins with thick black tights. In this weather. Yeah, that doesn’t exactly work for me and I’m sweating just thinking about it.

Finally, Keisha Buchanan’s dress outshone her bandmates hands down - and not just because it’s super shiny. I like it a lot - just wish it was more supportive around the boob region because it makes her look rather saggy.

00_kelly_rowland_tess_daly.jpg

From one purply dress to another, I really like Kelly Rowland’s bluey-purple satin dress. I didn’t at first because it does make her look a little disportioned (big hips, tight chest, broad shoulders) but I’ve grown to like how the folds provide concealing shapes and interest.

I went the other way with Tess Daly though - at first I thought it looked simple and fun but looking at it more closely, the fabric doesn’t seem to have enough weight around the skirt and her very blonde hair and big hoop earrings conspire to make the whole outfit look cheap.

00_daisy_lowe_adele.jpg

Daisy Lowe’s outfit so very nearly worked for me - cute dress design and I like the jacket - but it seems to have been struck with Sugababe-itis. Like Amelle, the high waist of the dress makes the skirt a little too short and Daisy’s tried to protect her modesty - and keep those bits for Mark Ronson’s eyes only - with Heidi-like black tights. Again, sweating now.

Adele’s overcoat also makes me overly warm - I like the look and if it had been, hell, just a month ago, I’d have been all over it but with the sun blazing at the moment, I’m very much a less is more girl.

00_donna_air_roisin_murphy.jpg

Donna Air obviously lives by that mantra too - and purposely forgot to accessorise her (tight waist enhancing) pencil skirt with a top of any sort, settling instead for just underwear - while Moloko’s Róisín Murphy clearly lives by the concept that you can never have too much random stuff going on with an outfit. Randomly cut sack dress? Tatty, torn sash of bright fabric? Broad and ugly ’see-through’ strap? Kinda cute but also bizarre contrasting hat? Contrasting dress lining (it’s either that or a cape). All present and incorrect. Shudder.
