Duchess of York wants to get Britain fitter and healthier
In a recent interview with ITV to promote her new UK television programme, the Duchess of York revealed that she would like to move back to the UK and is going to sub-let her New York home in order to spend more time here.
Sarah Ferguson, aged 48, has lived in the States since 1996, working as a public speaker and as the US representative for Weight Watchers International, but has now decided that she would like to come back to Britain to teach the Brits how to be fitter and healthier.
She is scheduled to appear in an ITV documentary called Duchess In Hull later this month, in which she helps an overweight family of six in Hull to overcome their weight problems.
Ferguson herself has famously battled with weight and self esteem issues, and she admits that her problems are far from in the past. She has an ice bath every day to help lift her mood and explains: “Last night, you go to a party. You think you are not good enough. It’s body image and every single minute of my day I think that I am fat, ugly and disgusting.
“Every minute of the day that I am unworthy and nobody likes me.”
The ex-royal has even said she would like to meet up with Schools Secretary Ed Balls and Health Secretary Alan Johnson: “I don’t want to tell them what to do, I just want to help them so that in 2050 they are not faced with a $50billion healthcare bill.”
Sarah Ferguson, who has two daughters with ex-husband Prince Andrew, enthused about her new cause: “I would love to do more work in this country to just share some of the knowledge that I have gleaned over the last 15 years - how I’m still standing really, and what do I do with my health and fitness regime.
“Not just that, but how do I stand up in front of millions of people and talk about what it’s like to go through the adversity of life and be smiling and be happy?
“I would love to share that and if I can, I would love to do it - and perhaps-also support Britain. I love Britain. What I really want to do is to do much more to support the Government in order to help more people have the opportunity to get to heart health.”
