Amy Winehouse planning to undergo short but intensive drug detox?
Amy Winehouse is reportedly planning to undergo an intensive rehab treatment in Israel in her latest effort to beat her drug problems.
According to the Sun, the chairman of the country’s Anti-Drug Authority Eliezer Cohen told the Jewish Chronicle: “Amy’s people spoke to a renowned Israeli institution and an Israeli professor [Dr Andre Waismann] who conducts a very special and effective method.
“She has requested to come to him to do this method, since it’s a method that is suitable for her.”
Waismann’s “very short, intensive and effective treatment” sees patients sedated in intensive care then injected with a drug which blocks the physical craving for heroin. Dr Waismann added: “All of my patients are discharged healthy and no longer dependent.
“There is a misunderstanding about drug addiction. People think it is a social and psychological problem, but it’s a neurological problem.
“Whether it’s Amy Winehouse or anyone else, it is a privilege to be able to treat anyone who is opiate-dependent, and allow them to live a normal life.”
Amy’s parents told the People newspaper that they support the move and dad Mitch Winehouse hopes: “If the drugs thing gets sorted, her life will turn around.”
Amy checked in - then out - of rehab several times after her drug overdose last summer but refused to stay as husband Blake Fielder-Civil didn’t want to undergo treatment at that time. Earlier this year, she spent a fortnight in a London clinic after she was filmed apparently smoking crack-cocaine but was said to have quickly slipped back into old ways after she left treatment early to prepare for her Grammy performance.
