Madonna’s adoption of son David finalised in Malawi

Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s adoption of son David has finally be made official.

The case was heard in a Malawian court yesterday with Judge Andrew Nyirenda saying that by all accounts the star is a “fantastic mother” to the two year old, and that the adoption should be finalised without any additional conditions.

Madonna’s lawyer in the country Alan Chinula said after the announcements: “It’s official, David is Madonna’s baby. We are very happy.

“It is a positive and beautiful judgment that will have an impact on Malawi’s adoption laws.”

David’s biological father Yohane Banda added that he is also pleased that the proceedings have finally come to a close after 18 months: “I am glad it’s all over, I am glad David has a new, good home.”

David was handed over to an orphanage after his mother died when he was just a month old and his father and extended family felt that they could not care for him. Madonna met the boy in October 2006 when he was 13 months old and now founds seven orphanages in the area. David is now known as David Banda Mwale Ciccone Ritchie.
