Naomi Campbell charged with six assault related offences

Naomi Campbell potentially faces up to 18 months in prison and fines of up to £21,000 after been charged for six air-rage offences.

The supermodel returned to Heathrow Airport’s police station yesterday following the incident at the start of April. Naomi is said to have shouted and sworn at British Airways staff and then spat at police officers when they arrived to remove her from the Los Angeles bound plane.

In returning to answer bail yesterday, she was informed that the Crown Prosecution Service had decided to press charges: three counts of assaulting a constable, two counts of using threatening words and a further count of disorderly conduct. The case will be heard at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on 20 June - where the maximum prison time and fine would be lower - but magistrates could choose to send the case to the Crown Court, with the possibility of increase punishment.

Naomi spent around 30 minutes at the police station yesterday but refused to answer any further questions.

Speaking as they left the station, her lawyer Simon Nicholls said that the model “is bitterly disappointed” with the decision to press charges but “she respects that decision and she hopes this matter is dealt with expeditiously.”
