Bill Murray accused of adultery, abuse and abandonment
Bill Murray’s wife has accused the comic of abuse, abandonment and addiction in divorce papers.
Jennifer Butler Murray filed the papers in a South Carolina family court earlier this month, seeking to end the couple’s ten year marriage and obtain a restraining order against the Ghostbusters star.
According to the court documents, Jennifer and the couple’s four children moved out of the family home in the area in 2006 because of Bill’s “adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addictions and frequent abandonment.”
The documents also claim that Bill repeatedly attacked her during their marriage, one time hitting her so hard “in the face [that doctors] told her she was ‘lucky he didn’t kill her’”.
Jennifer is seeking sole custody of the children but is willing to offer “reasonable visitation .. so long as he conducts himself in a proper manner, obeys all restraining orders, and does not involve the children in this litigation”.
The orders are intended to both stop Bill from “interfering with, abusing, intimidating, threatening, threatening to abuse or molesting” his wife and “stalking, or making abusive or threatening phone calls or text messages, to her or the children”. An additional order would also prevent him “from exposing the children to any person with whom he is sexually or romantically involved, or anyone taking or in possession of illegal drugs”.
Jennifer is also pursuing the enforcement of a $7million pre-nuptial agreement and asking Bill to be responsible for all costs associated with their children, including ongoing support costs.
A statement released by Bill’s lawyer yesterday said that the actor “is deeply saddened by the dissolution of his marriage to Jennifer. [They] remain loving parents, committed to the best interests of their children.
“Mr Murray asks that the public respect his family’s privacy at this difficult time.”
