Wayne Rooney & Coleen McLoughlin marry in civil ceremony in Italy
Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin have married in the Italian Riveria town of Portofino.
The low-key civil ceremony took place at the Villa Durazzo, a 17th century palace, in front of just a six close family members, two official witnesses and several bodyguards.
According to reports, the ceremony was conducted in Italian with a translation into English by Coleen’s usual priest, Father Edward Quinn, who had been flown over from Liverpool for the event. Coleen is said to have cried throughout the vows and when they were pronounced husband and wife.
The WAG wore a full length white dress and pearls, while Wayne wore a hazel coloured suit with an open necked shirt.
The town’s deputy mayor Gianni Costa is quoted as saying: “It was a simple ceremony with around 15 people inside, mostly family.
“No rings were exchanged and the ceremony was very simple yet very beautiful.”
The service was concluded by around 10am this morning and the wedding party moved onto La Cervara, a 700 year old former abbey on the coast, for a more lavish wedding and blessing, to be attended by another 40 guests.
The event is then set to move onto a super-yacht moored off the coast for an extravangant wedding reception this evening, which is expected to conclude with a fireworks display after night fall.
OK magazine, which has a deal with the couple for exclusive coverage of the celebrations, is said to have met half the cost of the multi-day event.
