coleen mcloughlin and wayne rooneyAfter their low-key civil ceremony yesterday morning, Coleen McLoughlin and Wayne Rooney were reportedly delighted when the morning’s rain stopped in time for their religious ceremony later in the day.

The couple were legally married at the Villa Durazzo, in Santa Margherita on the Italian Riveria, in a short, intimate ceremony early yesterday then, shielded from the wet weather and paparazzi glare by big umbrellas - were whisked away for a wedding breakfast.

Later on, as the sun emerged mid-afternoon, the couple’s 64 guests were ferried to a nearby former monastery, La Cervara and around 5pm, Coleen’s dad walked her down the red carpet at St Girolama’s Chapel.

Coleen wore her much-anticipated Marchesa dress with a reported 25ft train for the religious ceremony, compared to neater but equally beautiful white dress for the civil ceremony.

Coleen’s sister Rosie was a flower girl for the event and according to the Sun, the sisters shared a smile at the altar before the service began, conducted by an Italian priest and Father Ned Quinn, Coleen’s priest from Liverpool who was flown in for the occasion.

After the ceremony, the wedding party and guests adjourned to a champagne reception, drinks and canapés on the estate’s Belvedere Terrace then a banquet feast inside the property.

The group returned to the terrace for the cutting of the cake and speeches, then Wayne and Coleen had their first dance as husband and wife at sunset. As the party part of the reception got underway - reportedly featuring a performance by Coleen’s favourite band Westlife, guests were also impressed by a £100,000 firework display.

The couple are expected to depart on a long weekend’s honeymoon around Sardinia on their rented super-yacht today. They were also invited to use Richard Branson’s private island in the Caribbean to ensure their privacy.
