Poll: Which 2008 Celebrity Spring Fling will go long term?
This Spring, a number of new celebrity couples have come to light - but which do you think will still be going strong in a year’s time - or 10 years time?
We’ve selected our top ten new couples and given you a quick rundown about their relationships to help you make up your mind.
(Read our quick relationship rundowns if you need more help deciding or leave a comment on your choice)
- Difor: Cameron Diaz & Paul Sculfor
After her ex (John Mayer) hooked up with his ex (Jennifer Aniston), it was only fitting that Cameron Diaz and Paul Sculfor should hook up too. The pair are said to have been on at least a few dates - and looked very touchy-feely and friendly - but unlike some of the couples on this list, it’s still very early days for the actress and the male model. Still though from small acorns/dates in Santa Monica, large oak relationships can grow…
- Kance: Kate Hudson & Lance Armstrong
Kate Hudson was reportedly amused to hear rumours that she’d got engaged to Owen Wilson last month - because she’d already broken up with him and had been seeing cyclist Lance Armstrong for a fortnight. They are said to have met through Owen, who Kate reunited with from February through to the end of April, and have been spotted out and about together near his home in Texas and in Cannes during last month’s film festival. Kate is said to be very pleased how well Lance, who was previously engaged to Sheryl Crow and linked to Ashley Olsen, is getting along with her four year old son, Ryder.
- Lewart: Jude Law & Kimberley Stewart
One of the flingiest flings so far: the couple were spotted snogging frantically in an Essex nightclub a month ago and if that wasn’t enough, they had a quick roll around in someone’s garden afterwards on their way home too. Jude has a bit of a reputation as a womaniser and Kimberley has been linked to a fair few men herself over the last year or so, but apparently Jude has already met her dad Rod Stewart and step-mum Penny Lancaster and was well liked, so it could be more serious than it first appears…
- Maniston: John Mayer & Jennifer Aniston
John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston’s spring fling came to light at the end of April, when they were spotted sunbathing together and having romantic meals in Miami - but some sources claim they’ve been together since they end of February. For the notoriously private Jennifer, they’ve engaged in quite a few PDAs so it looks like things are going well - or are just a giant publicity stunt. Assuming it’s for real though, it would be nice to see Jennifer settled down in a relationship again - since she’s been rather unlucky in love over the past three years - and John seems like he’s a good guy, not wanting to use her for a fame boost and reasonably well-adjusted within the crazy Hollywood universe.
- Marick: Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon
While most Spring Flingers are still in the initial stages of their relationships, still stressing over how many ‘x’ to sign off a text with (too many may be clingy, too few may be cold) and that sort of thing, Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon have already spent two and a half months as husband and wife. They hooked up when Nick starred opposite Mariah in her new music video and after just a month of dating, tied the knot at her estate in the Bahamas. According to Nick’s brother, they’re mad about each other - but will their love survive in the long run?
- Mawe: Mark Ronson & Daisy Lowe
Mark Ronson may be 13 years older than lingerie model Daisy but her mum Pearl Lowe is said to fully approval of the relationship - and not just because she finds the super-producer cute herself. Mark is said to have been working hard to impress his young lady - and given they’ve clocked up more than two months so far, he’s probably doing something right. But will the age difference be too much for them in the end, since he’s closer to her mum and dad (Gavin Rossdale)’s age than her own?
- Panji: Paris Hilton & Benji Madden
According to Paris Hilton and Benji Madden, they’re head over heels in love and will stay together forever, with a future full of babies and marriage - but what do you think? The couple, who are said to have been friends for many years while Benji was engaged to Sophie Monk, got together at the end of February and just a few weeks later, Paris joined Benji’s band Good Charlotte on their tour dates in South Africa and across Europe. Apparently the socialite was happy to slum it to be near her man and the pair remained locked at the paws on their return to LA afterwards. Compared to the March mayhem, things seem to have quietened down between them lately but every so often, either one of them (or Benji’s brother Joel Madden) pops up with a comment about how well suited they are and how they’re in it for the long term - but do you believe it?
- Rihown: Rihanna & Chris Brown
Oh sorry, my mistake. They’re not a loved-up spring fling couple, they’re just friends. Very good friends. Brother and sister-like friends. Friends who like to drape themselves across each other. And get cosy at New York nightclubs. And kiss while waiting for chicken. That type of friends. But do you think their nudge-nudge-wink-wink friendship will last? Or will Rihanna’s record company get their way?
- Tomela (since Pammy is boring): Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee
Yes, again. They’d only known each other for four days before getting married in 1995 and were together for three years (and two kids) before getting a divorce. Considering Pamela’s subsequent marriages (Kid Rock = four months before divorcing; Rick Salomon = two months before an annulment), this is verging on diamond anniversary material. As Tommy says himself: “we’ve only given it a try 800 times - 801, here we go.” Think it’ll be lucky 801 for them?
- Geri and the dancer guy: Geri Halliwell & Ivan ‘Flipz’ Velez
I couldn’t be bothered coming up with a nickname for this pair since he’s not a celebrity in his own right and already has a silly nickname. They’re said to have met a few years ago, on the set of Geri’s ‘It’s Raining Men’ music video, but only got to really know each other when Ivan was hired as one of the backing dancers on the Spice Girls reunion tour last year. Geri is said to be rather fond of Flipz and likes his manner with her daughter Bluebell - but he’s said to be a bit overwhelmed by her exercise obsession. Geri’s not the first star to date one of her dancers: her fellow Spice Girl Melanie Brown married Jimmy Gulzar and of course, Britney Spears married Kevin Federline - but neither of those marriages reached their third anniversaries. Will Geri and Ivan’s relationship be different?
