Dad-to-be Matthew McConaughey’s drunken weekend in Nicaragua
Matthew McConaughey reportedly had to be carried out of a bar after a wild night out in Nicaragua with friends last week.
Matthew, who was in the Central America country on a surfing holiday, was spotted drunkenly chatting up a number of local women at the Iguana bar in San Juan Del Sur on the Friday night before returning for a wilder night on the Saturday.
An onlooker reported: “He was so drunk he did stuff only a drunk guy would do. He was acting like an 18 year old.
At one point: “He stood on a table, screaming in drunk, broken Spanish, ‘I’ve lost my flip-flops.’
“He was dancing with a ton of women but he was too drunk to go home with any of them.”
And the actor, who is set to become a dad for the first time later this summer, was apparently less than pleased when he found out that someone was filming his antics: “He ripped the camera out of the girl’s hands and tried to smash it against the table.
“He was on his own [without any security staff], which impressed everyone at first, but the guy drank everything and by the time he was carried out on Saturday night, everyone had lost respect for him.”
Matthew confirmed the trip south in an email to the New York Daily News and while he denied that he was hitting on local women, he wrote: “Drunk? Absolutely.
“Nicaragua is a beautiful place, epic waves, the best surfing I have ever been on. And yes, I’m STILL looking for my left flip-flop. So if anyone finds it floating around down there (it has 6:22 stitched into the side), please send it my way. There is a reward.”

I spend a lot of time in San Juan Del Sur and I love the people there, but I think it sucks that the locals sold this story. I live in hacienda iguana and it is a gated community with great surf breaks. I hope that this incident doesn’t make the people who go to Nicaragua to hide away from the press stop coming down. Think about it locals we all make mistakes. Come up to Iguana if your looking for privacy! We mind our own……
