Amy Winehouse in tuberculosis scare
Amy Winehouse’s doctors suspected the singer was possibly suffering from tuberculosis after she admitted she’s been coughing up blood for some time.
The singer was hospitalised after collapsing at her London home on Monday afternoon and has been kept at the private London Clinic for tests and observation since then. Her family are said to be hoping to use the time as a detox period as well and are said to be prepared to have her sectioned to keep her in treatment.
A source told the Sun: “Amy is in a bad way. Doctors are still struggling to control her heartbeat but the chest condition has been really worrying them.
“She’d been been suffering horrible coughing fits and hurling up blood for a while but refused to be examined.”
Doctors carried out tests for tuberculosis this week but according to Amy’s spokesperson, the test came back negative, suggesting just a less serious chest infection.
But the Sun’s source said that her family are hoping that even the idea of her having tuberculosis may be enough to “frighten her into getting herself well”: “She needs to realise she will die if she she doesn’t clean up her act.”
Yesterday Amy’s spokesperson said that Amy’s appearances at Glastonbury and Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday Celebrations next weekend still may go ahead: “She would really love to do the show – she always wants to do these things. But she will listen to her doctors.”
