Ellen DeGeneres & Portia de Rossi set their wedding date

Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she and long-term girlfriend Portia De Rossi have set a wedding date.

Speaking at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday in Hollywood, the women showed off Portia’s engagement ring - a marquis cut diamond set with pink diamonds by Neil Lane - and confirmed that they’ve set a date now that California’s Supreme Court has reversed their earlier decision to ban same-sex marriages.

Ellen, who picked up her fourth consecutive award for Outstanding Talk Show Host at the event, explained: “Yes, we have set a wedding date. How do I feel about it? I obviously feel like it’s long overdue.

“I can’t wait to be married. I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous that we don’t all have the same rights.”

The comedienne refused to give any information about where or when the ceremony will take place but said that the process of planning “the dream wedding” is “very stressful”: “It is crazy. My gardener is now invited.”

She added that the reception will also include performances by “incredible people” and she will air part of the proceedings on her chat show.
