jamie lee curtisJamie Lee Curtis has admitted that she became addicted to painkillers after cosmetic surgery 15 years ago due to loneliness and fear of aging.

Forty-nine year old Jamie told the US magazine, More, recently: “I attempted various types of plastic surgery, minutely but enough to stave off this encroaching middle-aged body.

“And every time I did, something went wrong. I felt misshapen, just not natural any more. I think it was a big stimulator of my drug abuse.”

The True Lies star admitted she drank heavily and took the pills to “anaesthetise myself on a daily basis” - even once stealing painkillers from her sister Kelly while she stayed with Jamie Lee and husband Lord Christopher Haden-Guest recovering from a broken bone: “No one knew. Chris didn’t have a clue.”

After stealing the pills, she wrote her Kelly a letter, which she never sent, to apologise and explain herself: “I’ve been harbouring a bad secret. I have found and taken many of your painkillers.

“I’ve betrayed you, and I know that you’re angry, and you have every right to be. I am lonely. I take them at night to ease the pain. I was so afraid to tell you.”

She eventually beat her addiction nine years ago, when she realised her habit would be having a negative impact on her now 21 year old daughter, Anne. She now works as a volunteer counsellor on anti-drug campaigns and works with recovering addicts.
