A source told the Sun that the couple left their three children with a nanny for the break last week but “they had completely separate rooms, schedules, everything.”

Madonna visited fashion designers in the city and Guy spent his time working on a new commercial he’s filming with George Clooney.

The source explained: “It is all very well organized but it’s not a marriage the way most people understand it.

“They have this attitude like ‘we’re not really a couple but we’re friends and we love each other and raise our kids’. But the truth is they p*** each other off, don’t agree on anything, don’t see each other or live ‘together’ as they did.”

“Most couples would have made the most of the romantic city but there was hardly any contact between them. [After three days,] Madonna quickly flew back to NY to join her kids.”

Earlier this week a source told the Mirror that the couple are on the verge of separating but will wait until the end of Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet world tour in November to announce their intention to divorce.
