wayne rooneyWayne Rooney has had a tribute to his favourite band Stereophonics - and to his own lack of schooling - tattooed onto his arm.

The Manchester United star returned from his honeymoon with the words “Just enough education to perform” inked on his right forearm, with the border of design suggesting that his skin had been peeled back to display the message.

The phrase was the title of the band’s third album, released in 2001, just a year before Wayne left school without passing any GCSEs.

A source close to the footballer explained: “The Stereophonics are huge musical heroes of his. He absolutely loves the band and that’s his favourite album.

“But he also thinks it’s funny that it could have been written about him.”

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones gave a surprise performance at Wayne’s wedding to Coleen McLoughlin last month. The tattoo is Wayne’s third: he also has a cross on his upper right arm and Coleen’s name on his left.
