matthew mcconaughey and camila alvesMatthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves have announced that their newborn son is called Levi Alves McConaughey.

The baby boy arrived in a Los Angeles area hospital at 6:22pm (local time) on Monday evening and writing on his blog, Matthew explained: “This particular ‘time’ represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible: ‘If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.’”

He added that Levi is another name used for the apostle Matthew in the Bible: “They were, in fact, two names for the same person.”

He signed off the short post saying: “We welcome Levi Alves McConaughey into this wonderful life and look forward to living in it with him. In the mean time and all times, just keep livin’.”

Matthew’s family have also been commenting on the new addition to the family with his brother Rooster saying the actor is “going to make one helluva dad” and his mum Kay telling Eonline.com: “He just loves children. Can’t you just see it? Matthew with his surfboard, walking the beach, and a gang of kids following him with their surfboards saying, ‘We’re coming, Papa!’”

But she added that none of the family were planning to buy the newborn boy many baby clothes: “Just get [Levi] flip-flops and a bathing suit. You know that kid’s not going to be wearing a lot of clothes.”
