Amy Winehouse likely to die a slow and painful death, says dad
Amy Winehouse’s dad has said he’s worried Amy is going to die a “very slow and painful death” due to lung problems resulting from her drug use.
Mitch Winehouse told Sky News yesterday: “My biggest fear is that she will die. She won’t die of a drug overdose, it won’t be that quick.
“She would die, unfortunately, of emphysema. That would be the most likely scenario if she didn’t check her behavior, which she is doing.”
Last month the singer was diagnosed as having the early stages of lung disease emphysema and he added that it will continue to get worse if she continues to smoke cigarettes and drugs: “She’s got a serious health problem and she can’t carry on like that.
“Her emphysema meant that anything inhaled into her lungs is going to cause her a lot more damage. I want people to understand - even if they give her one cigarette, they’re causing her harm.”
Mitch added that it was disheartening to hear rumours that Amy’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil is using heroin in jail: “I don’t think he’s clean now but he’ll go straight to rehab when he gets out.
“He has promised me that he will make things right when he gets out. We will give him the benefit of the doubt.
“It’s the last-chance saloon if he comes out and they go back to doing what they were doing before.
“He’s a fit young man and could probably go on like that for years - but Amy can’t and she needs to understand that.”
