Heath Ledger’s death biggest story so far of 2008, say Fametastic readers
Especially with the huge, huge, HUGE release of The Dark Knight in the US this weekend, Fametastic readers are in no doubt that Heath Ledger’s untimely death is the biggest story of 2008 so far.
The actor died suddenly in his New York home in January after an accidental overdose, leaving behind two year old daughter Matilda.
The phenomenon around the big screen version of Sex and the City and Britney Spears‘ custody dispute freak-out followed by various hospitalisations and her conservatorship were pretty much tied for second place in the poll - the latter probably would have placed higher if it hadn’t been so successful and it’s great to see her getting better. Hopefully she’ll continue on that path over the rest of the year.
At the other end of the scale, it might have earned the happy couple millions but Fametastic’s voters weren’t so interested in Coleen McLoughlin and Wayne Rooney’s wedding last month - possibly because they’re barely known of outside the UK. People also didn’t think the video of Amy Winehouse smoking crack was that big of a deal - possibly because a lot of people assumed it was going on anyway, so a video didn’t really add that much.
Thanks to all who voted!

Heath Ledger was an amazing actor. He put great work into everything he has worked on and been seen in. Heath was very talented. In my view Heath has left as a legacy. His performance in dark night as the joker was stunning as was his death. Heath left this world NOT a zero but a hero and an idol to all. Heath ledger was the worlds greatest actor its a shame he had to leave earth so young. Heaven is the place he is now with the ones who love him. Including I.
Heath we all truly miss you and can’t wait to know you in heaven.
Bless all who stood by him in life he was is and always will be the one we miss!

Heath Ledger was a great actor, he put so much effor into his performances, and he did an oustanding performance in the role of the Joker in The Dark Knight. You will be missed Heath. Not only has Australia lost a great actor but a true aussie and down to earth guy.
