peaches geldofPeaches Geldof reportedly took heroin before her nearly fatal collapse last weekend.

Reports earlier this week claimed that the socialite had to be given CPR by a friend then paramedics after a drug overdose at her London home last Sunday and now a friend has told the News of the World, it was Peaches first try of the drug that killed her mum, Paula Yates.

The friend explained that Peaches had smoked rather than injecting the drug but it was still a close call: “She was in a terrible state—not able to breathe for several minutes. She took a serious risk with her life and none of us could believe how far she went.

“Even Peaches can’t believe what she’s done, and wants to put it behind her.

“She was desperate for her dad Bob not to find out, and she has realised it can’t happen again.”

The source added: “Peaches will [now] go into rehab but she won’t be a prima donna. She will go in to clean up her act.

“She is adamant she won’t follow her mother into an early grave.”

TV presenter Paula died in 2000 at the age of 41 as a result of an accidental heroin overdose. She was survived by four daughters: Peaches & Pixie Geldof and their older sister Fifi from her marriage to Bob Geldof and 12 year old Tiger Lily, from her relationship with late INXS singer Michael Hutchence.
