britney spearsBritney Spears has reportedly spent around $2.5million on legal fees this year between her conservatorship and custody battle.

After the custody arrangements with ex-husband Kevin Federline were finally settled last month, Britney is said to have “reluctantly agreed” to a further extension of her conservatorship.

The order, giving control over her life to dad Jamie Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet, expired yesterday but according to Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner Reva Goetz, Britney “reluctantly agreed” to allow it to be extended until the end of the year, with a status hearing set to take place on 28th October. Between now and then, Britney’s team are said to be planning gradually pull back, allowing Britney increased control of her own life without overwhelming her.

A source close to the singer told People magazine: “The extension of the conservatorship was at the request and suggestion of Britney’s doctors.

“They’ve indicated she’s made great improvement, but it’s a work in progress. Jamie Spears doesn’t want the conservatorship to last a day longer than the doctors recommend.”

An interim hearing in August will address payment of the attorneys, including court-appointed representatives, who have worked on Britney’s behalf since the order was put in place since February.

According to OK magazine though, Britney has already paid out $724,109 in fees to her conservatorship legal team and another $1million for the number of attorneys who have represented her during her custody battle. She has also been ordered to pay a total of around $745,000 to Kevin’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan to allow him to have a fair chance in the dispute.

A source explained: “It’s been an expensive year, particularly since she’s not been bringing in much money, but those close to her hope it’ll all be worth it.”
