Morgan FreemanMorgan Freeman is said to be in “good spirits” after breaking his arm and elbow in a car crash on Sunday night.

The 71 year old Dark Knight star was driving with a friend when the accident occurred around 11:30pm in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. The car is said to have veered off the road and flipped over several times before coming to a stop.

Morgan and his passenger, identified by police as Demaris Meyer, were airlifted to hospital in Memphis and Morgan’s condition was initially described as “serious”.

His spokesperson later confirmed: “He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits.

“He is going to have surgery to correct the damage. He says he’ll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery.”

Morgan was said to have been “conscious [and] coherent” as he was pulled out of the car and an onlooker reported: “He even seemed to have a sense of humor: as he was being stretchered away, someone tried to take a photo of him and he joked ‘no freebies, no freebies’.”

The accident is under investigation and no cause has been determined, but police have said that no alcohol or drugs were involved and both Morgan and Demaris were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
