The X-Files star moved back to London after the series ended in 2002 after spending part of her early childhood in the city - but she explained recently that she thought like most celebrities, she’d have to steer clear of public transport to avoid being spotted.

She said: “To be honest it was when I was afraid that people would recognise me that I was recognised much more.

“When I first arrived in London I was much more afraid of that, so I stayed in. But after a while I began to feel claustrophobic and thought, ‘We have to get out’.

“So I went out very confidently, wore a hat, sat with my back to people, and the funny thing is that people would look at me and think ‘Is that…? Impossible. She wouldn’t ride the Tube.’”

Gillian is currently around five months pregnant with her third child.
