Gail Porter on her special bond with daughter Holly
Gail Porter has said that while she hadn’t planned for a life of “baldness and single motherhood”, she’s proud of her relationship with daughter Holly.
Gail suffered from post-natal depression - and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder - following Holly’s (unplanned but “absolutely wonderful”) birth in 2002 and later lost her hair as a result of alopecia areata in 2005, following her split from Holly’s dad, Toploader guitarist Dan Hipgrave.
She explained recently: “Honey and I are so close. We’re like best mates. She’s the one person who hopes my hair doesn’t grow back. She really worries about that.
“She’s a brilliant kid. If I’m feeling a bit low she just instinctively knows and gives me a cuddle.
“She’s hilarious too. Her favourite programme is The Mighty Boosh. She’s even got my Mum into it.”
She added that she may consider adopting or fostering children in the future - but not yet: “Maybe when Honey’s a lot older and I’m more financially settled. It’d be lovely.
“[But] I think I’d find it weird to have another small person around right now. I adore kids, but I adore the bond Honey and I have. I’ve asked her before if she wants a brother or sister, and she just looked at me in horror.
“Right now I’m happy with it being just me, her and the dog. That’s more than enough. It’s our little posse and I love it.”

I do love the fact that Gail didn’t try to hide her lack of hair. Great confidence.
