Jade Goody: I’ll have to keep working even though I’ve got cancer

Jade Goody has revealed doctors may have caught her cancer sooner if she’d reacted to an abnormal smear test.

The former Big Brother star is currently undergoing medical tests after she was found to have a tumour on her womb and is expected to find out on Friday whether the cancer has spread to other organs and whether or not she’ll need a full hysterectomy.

She told Heat magazine that when she was hospitalised due to sudden bleeding at the start of the month, the doctors couldn’t tell what was causing the problem: “[But] it was then that I was told I must have another operation on the dodgy cells on my cervix.

“They’d sent a letter to me ages ago telling me I needed to go in, but I’d been too scared to come in and do anything about it.

“The doctor still seemed really concerned. She said there was a chance it could be cancerous.”

The mum of two said that even with that hanging over her, she still made the decision to go into the Indian version of the Big Brother house on the country’s Bigg Boss show: “I thought a lot of people would criticise me for going on the show, but I have to pay my bills.

“I need to make sure I can support my boys. I have to keep working to support my family. Stopping work isn’t an option.”
