Britney Spears wins three trophies at MTV VMAs

Britney Spears was left speechless after picking up three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards last night.

During the star’s heyday, she was nominated for a total of 16 of the awards - but failed to win a single one. However, last night’s ceremony saw her picking up trophies for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for her ‘Piece of Me’ promo.

After introducing the ceremony in a skit with Jonah Hill then on the stage itself wearing a vintage sparkling Versace mini-dress, the singer looked considerably healthy and more alert in comparison to her critically-mauled performance on the awards show last year.

Picking up the first award - the Best Female Video trophy - she told the audience: “I’m speechless. Oh, my goodness, thank you!

“I first wanna thank God for blessing me like this. My family … my two beautiful boys for inspiring me everyday.”

For the Best Pop Video award, she repeated her “speechless” comment before thanking manager Larry Rudolph - who she recently rehired after firing last year - and picking up the Video of the Year award, she said: “I’m in shock right now. I want to dedicate this to all my fans.”

The evening also saw Britney reunited with one-time BFF Paris Hilton, who presented her with one of the trophies. According to backstage sources, the women were thrilled to see each other again, with Paris telling Britney: “I love you. I miss you. And it’s so good to see you.”

The paparazzi-themed video was filmed in November last year, just a month before Britney’s first hospitalisation after the “family custody dispute” at her Los Angeles home. The single reached number 2 in the UK and number 18 in the US Billboard’s Pop and Hot charts (it reached number 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charts).
