Naomi CampbellNaomi Campbell started her community service work yesterday at a homeless centre in East London.

The supermodel was sentenced to 200 hours of community service in June after pleading guilty to six air-rage assault charges dating from an incident at Heathrow Airport in April.

She is said to have arrived at the Whitechapel Mission drop-in centre ten minutes late yesterday after her driver got lost but once there, she spent the day working with the centre’s admin staff doing paperwork.

Speaking at a pre-London Fashion Week event last night, she said: “I had a great time today. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming.

“I’ve invited them to my show and they’ve promised to come. I just want to keep my head down and get on with it.”

But a source at the centre, which provides shelter and food for the homeless, has said that she’s being treated “like a princess” and let off lightly with the office work, instead of washing dishes and cleaning: “It’s usually pretty gruelling work but not for her.

“She was friendly enough and said hello but she didn’t look too chuffed.”

Naomi was also fined a total of £2,945 over the incidents, which if had gone to trial could have results in six months of jail time.
