Kanye West released on bail over airport assault

Kanye West has been released on $20,000 bail after alleged damaging a photographer’s camera at Los Angeles International Airport yesterday morning.

According to reports, Kanye rushed the photographer trying to take pictures of him on his way to board a flight to Hawaii and a struggle ensued. A camera, valued at more than $10,000, is said to have been smashed during the incident and a second camera, a video camera, was also damaged when Kanye’s bodyguard tried to seize tape of the incident. Kanye and his entourage then attempted to board the plane as before but were stopped at security then arrested.

A spokesperson for LAX confirmed yesterday: “Mr West was arrested at 7:51 a.m. outside the passenger screening area by airport police on charges of vandalism. In addition, Mr. West’s [road manager] was arrested for vandalism and battery.”

Both Kanye and the manager were released on bail by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division yesterday afternoon. Kanye is said to have been charged with felony level vandalism given the value of the camera, which could result in a fine up to $150,000 or a year’s jail time.
