Michelle Williams: I need time off after a hectic year
Michelle Williams has said she’s planning to take a year off acting after a hectic year.
The former Dawson’s Creek has made five films over the last year, Deception, Incendiary, Synecdoche, New York, Mammoth and Ashecliffe, as well as being a mum to three year old daughter Matilda and dealing with first her split from Heath Ledger last summer then his death in January.
She told the New York Times magazine recently the pace of life has left her exhausted: “I’m going to take a year off. I think I stopped feeling creative a while ago, and I’m just realising it now.
“I used to have all the time in the world to daydream and even just to dream and let your unconscious do some of the work for you. Now I’m up at five in the morning and I don’t remember what I dreamed about.”
She added that as well as looking after her growing daughter, she wants to take time out to enjoy simple hobbies: “I want to humble myself in front of a task like embroidery. I like how really physical work can free your mind.”
And when she returns to acting, “maybe it should be a comedy. I’ve always had a tendency for darker, more life-life material. I think I had this sense that important things are heavier things. I don’t know if that’s true any more.”
