Jade Goody’s mum pledges to be a better mum to sick daughter
Jade Goody’s mum Jackiey Budden have vowed support her daughter throughout her cancer battle.
While the former Big Brother star recovers from her hysterectomy in hospital and prepares for a nine week course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Jackiey has moved into Jade’s house to help look after her grandsons, five year old Bobby and four year old Freddie.
She told Closer magazine recently: “I haven’t been perfect [in the past], and poor Jade had to grow up much too fast. But I’m here for her now, and it’s time for me to act like a mother.
“I just don’t want to believe it. I’m shell-shocked.”
She also recalled the phone call when Jade told her the news about her diagnosis: “Jade rang me from her hotel in India, screaming and crying her eyes out, saying: ‘I’ve got cancer. I’m going to die, I’m going to die.’ I was so shocked and didn’t know what to say.
“She ended up hanging up on me - she didn’t think I was being supportive enough, but I was just shocked.
“She texted later and said sorry. I think she just wanted to take it out on me. I am taking it seriously, but I don’t want to look too far into the future.
“I’ve got to be strong for Jade. Even though I’m frightened.”
Earlier this month, an excerpt from Jade’s new autobiography revealed that she once smoked some of Jackiey’s crack-cocaine in an effort to scare her addicted mum off drugs. Jade’s dad Robert was also a drug user and habitual criminal before his death from a heroin overdose.
